Next summer, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is honored to host the Sixth International Conference on Baptist Studies. This triennial scholarly conference convenes every three years, rotating between North American and international sites. Previous conferences have been held at Oxford University, Wake Forest Divinity School, the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague, Acadia Divinity College in Nova Scotia, and Whitley College in Australia. Next year’s conference will be held on Southeastern’s campus July 11-14, 2012.
One of the great things about this particular conference is that it is diverse. Speakers represent the full theological spectrum among Baptist Christians. There are also speakers from all over the world, including scholars from the Majority World. Outside of perhaps the Baptist World Alliance, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more diverse gathering of Baptists. I’m looking forward to reading a paper tentatively titled “Baptist Identities in Recent Discussion: Prescription and Description.”
I will be posting more information about the conference in the coming year. For now, you can find out basic information on the Baptist History and Heritage Society’s website.
